Text: 1 Samuel 8:1-5
Memory verse:
“Through wisdom a house is built, And by understanding it is established;” Proverbs 24:3
Thomas Monagham, the founder of Domino’s Pizza remarked after recovering from a huge business debt – “My life is less complicated now; I spend more time with my family; I watch less television. I feel good about having gotten the distraction out of the system”
Also, wondering why Robertson McQuilkin, president of Columbia Bible College would resign at the peak of his career to take care of his wife who had Alzheimer’s disease, the board said to him, “In all respect, sir, why would you want to do this? Your wife doesn’t even know who you are.” McQuilkin responded, “I made a commitment to this woman over 50 years ago. She may not know who I am, but I know who she is.”
1 Samuel 7:15-17 gives a clue to the cause of the sad family of the greatest prophets of Israel. Absentee father and husband!
The word husband literally means a man who has a wife. The word also comes from a Latin word which means the house band, that is, “the band of the house,” – the support of it, the person who keeps it together as a band keeps together a sheaf of corn or as a rubber band that wraps around a bundle of money notes. God holds the father and husband responsible to keep the family together.
In the story of creation, most often, we blame the woman for the fall. But who was the leader in the house? Who failed in his responsibility? The enemy sneaks in because the house band isn’t there. When you are around the home, when you give enough time to your wife and children and provide for their needs, you would avoid the sorrows of tomorrow. Don’t misplace your priority. For the home, the spouse and children you build today will maintain the career and business empire you build tomorrow.
Prayer points
1. Father, I receive Your wisdom to reorder my priorities now in Jesus name.
2. Dear Lord, make all our fathers and prepare all our young men to be true husbands in Jesus name.
Today’s declarations
1. There are many married men who are not husbands, because they are not the band of their house.
2. The family I build today will maintain the career and empire I build tomorrow.
