Text: Joshua 10:1-15
Memory text:
“Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.” Psalms 50:15 NKJV
It is not enough to have a capable ally, the ally must also be reliable. To have an unreliable ally is like resting on a staff of reed or a broken stick. Ezekiel 29:6 (ISV) puts it like this , “Then everyone living in Egypt will know that I am the LORD, because they have been an unreliable ally to the house of Israel.”
While man is limited in ability and is unreliable, God remains the all capable and reliable Helper.
Irrespective of the capabilities of any army or nation, they are like a drop of water in a bucket before the Almighty God; like a dust in a scale (Isa 40:15).
A powerful army may cause great destruction on the enemies, their installations, and facilities through the use of hypersonic drones, rockets, bombs, ballistic missiles, and other modern equipment. Even then, these weapons are nothing compared to divine weapons. The Almighty God controls all the resources of the earth and can use them against the enemies. He can destroy the enemies with hailstones, brimstones, coal, and fire. Angelic resources are also available to Him.
According to our text, Joshua stood up as the reliable ally of Gibeon to fight against the five kings of the Amorites who had gathered against them. He and the people of Israel stood up to fight for them as they had earlier promised to do (Josh 9:15). God is more reliable, and He will answer you speedily in the day of trouble (Psa 50:15).
Even though Joshua was a great warrior, Israel’s overwhelming victory was a result of the involvement of the Almighty God. “And it happened, as they fled before Israel and were on the descent of Beth Horon, that the Lord cast down large hailstones from heaven on them as far as Azekah, and they died. There were more who died from the hailstones than the children of Israel killed with the sword.” (Josh 10:11).
Did you notice this…more died from hailstones than of the sword?
What about the war of the Assyrians with Hezekiah and the people of Judah? One angel killed 185,000 men without struggle (Isa 37:36). If one angel can kill that number at once and without resistance, then we don’t need many angels in the battles of life!
Friends, the Almighty God has all capabilites, and He is faithful to help you. Make Him your Ally, and you won’t lose in life’s battles.
