THE NAME FOR SIGNS AND WONDERS

THE NAME FOR SIGNS AND WONDERS

Text: Mark 16:15-18
Memory text:
“Here am I and the children whom the Lord has given me! We are for signs and wonders in Israel from the Lord of hosts, Who dwells in Mount Zion.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭8‬:‭18‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Someone described wonders as what makes you wonder. Yes, wonders make you stand amazed or speechless. Signs and wonders are miraculous events and divine acts that demonstrate the power and presence of the Almighty God. When the name of Jesus is applied in faith, signs and wonders are demonstrated.
Signs and wonders are miraculous happenings that are unbelievable by men, yet they are undeniable. They are beyond any human reasoning, and most often, they have no historical or scientific records. In John 9, the Jews interrogated the boy who was born blind and his father about his claim of being healed by Jesus. They never believed that anyone could ever open the eyes of such. As they continued to attempt to rubbish his claims and deny the undeniable miracle, the healed man said,
“Since the world began, it has been unheard of that anyone opened the eyes of one who was born blind.”
‭‭(John‬ ‭9‬:‭32‬). In other words, this is a wonder since the world has never recorded the healing of a person who was born blind.
Also, when He stilled a threatening storm with a word, His disciples stood amazed and said to one another, “Who can this be that even the wind and the sea obey Him!”” ‭‭(Mark‬ ‭4‬:‭41‬). Thereafter, in Mark 5, He healed a demonized man, whose case had defiled all known medical, natural, or psychological antidotes, causing the people around to be in awe.
He commissioned all those who believe in Him to do likewise by using His name. After Peter had healed the man who was born lame, begging at the temple gate, and the people seeing Him, leaping, walking, and praising God, “.. they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.” ‭‭(Acts‬ ‭3‬:‭10‬).
The name of Jesus turns ordinary people into super ordinary! When Paul shook off the poisonous viper that fastened on his hand into the fire unharmed, the people concluded that he was a god! They had expected the usual, that he would fall down dead! (Acts 28:3-6).
Friends, God has called you not to live an ordinary life but a life of signs and wonders. It is not reserved for title-carrying ministers or a selected few, but for all who believe in Him; those who commit their lives to Him and daily obey His command, to preach the good news. Begin on this Christmas Day by sharing the good news that the Saviour is born with your family and all your visitors.

Prayer points
1. Father, let signs and wonders follow me as I obey Your command to share the good news in Jesus’ name.
2. Father, please, do the unusual and unbelievable yet undeniable miracles through me and for Your glory, in Jesus’ name.

Today’s declarations
1. I believe in Jesus as my Lord and Saviour, and I daily obey the Great Commission. Therefore, signs and wonders follow me.
2. Signs and wonders don’t belong to the “Bless me club” but those who obey the Great Command to go and preach the gospel.
