Text: Proverbs 4:20-23
Memory text:
“For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.”
I Thessalonians 2:13
The Word of God is the only food or knowledge that has the power to transform your spirit, your soul, and your body. It can transform a sinner to a saint, a person of poor character to a person of noble character and the sick to the healthy.
Our memory text shows that the Word of God is never dormant or passive in the believers but works effectively in them. This also confirms what Hebrews 4:12 says, that the Word is living and active. It is not just a collection of ancient texts. Rather, it carries life and energy to transform anything it resides in.
Nothing is able to divide between what is of the flesh and what is of the Spirit except the Spirit of God. It cuts through our defenses to expose our innermost thoughts and intentions. It reveals to us our self-deception, reveals the truth to us, and convicts us of our wrongs but does not condemn us. It reveals our need for a Saviour, leading us to salvation. Even after salvation, the Word keeps bringing to us what needs to be surrendered so we can stand with its truth. In the process, we gradually change, and this transformation reflects in our love for God, our devotion, our service, and our worship. This is the result of the effectual working of the Word of God, which the Thessalonians experienced.
The Word of God transforms our souls. It affects our thinking and our emotions. It’s often said that you are what you think or what you feed your mind with. You see, your mind, which is part of your soul, was not reborn when you were saved. It comes with the old ‘program’. Luke 21:19 says it’s in being patient and gradually that the soul (mind) is won or saved after one has been saved. We need to deprogram and reprogram our minds to gradually fit into God’s mold. This is the mind renewal process of the Word of God (Rom 12:1-2).
The Word also transforms our bodies to fit into God’s standard, which includes soundness, vitality, and health. When you feed yourself consistently with the Word, it will transform your body from weak to strong and sick to healthy (Prov 4:20-22).
Friends, you can’t find a complete life transformation outside the Word of God. Give yourself to it.
