THE WEAVER

THE WEAVER

Text: Titus 2:3-5
Memory verse:
“The wise woman builds her house, But the foolish pulls it down with her hands.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭14‬:‭1‬

Susannah Wesley was the mother of ten children including John and Charles Wesley, the founders of worldwide Methodism. The connection that Susannah had with her husband and children made John to think at the age of six or seven that he would never marry “because I could never find such a woman as my father had.” Wow! The children were raised with biblical and moral principles. They were taught to cry softly, to eat what was put before them, and not to raise their voices or play noisily. Susanna made it a rule for herself to spend an hour a day with each of the children over the period of a week. She prayed and played among the children. The example of faith and godly reverence she set for her children inspired John and Charles to pursue after God.
The word “wife” literally means a weaver. The common employment in every house in the ancient days was the fabrication of clothing and every family made its own. The girls, also called spinsters, spun the wool into thread while the thread was woven into cloth by their mother, who was called the weaver, or the wife.
Thus, the role of the wife, is what our text teaches. She weaves all members of her family together, unlike the woman who scatters them. She is earnest, serious, purposeful and determined as a home maker and home builder. Even with the decadence of the society, her children stand out as well taught. She is not a busy body but one who minds her business like a fruitful vine at the center of her husband’s house (Psa 125:3; 1 Tim 5:13-14). With her deep prayer life and strong faith, she weaves her family members into God’s purpose.
Dear sister, don’t allow your job or business to prevent you from fulfilling your God-ordained responsibility as your family weaver.

Prayer points
1. Father, make all our mothers and prepare all our unmarried sisters to be their family weavers in Jesus name.
2. Father, give wisdom to all our mothers to strike a balance between their career/business and their homes in Jesus name.

Today’s declarations
