Text: 2 Samuel 5:22-25
Memory Verse:
“And it shall be, when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then you shall advance quickly. For then the Lord will go out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.” II Samuel 5:24
We are not called to know everything but to know God’s leading. Oswald Chambers said, “Faith never knows where it is being led but it loves and knows the One who is leading”.
David fought many battles and never lost one except the battle against his flesh.
One quality of David that gave him victory in all these battles was that he always sought for God’s direction before embarking on any battle. In our text today, David did not stand on his recent victory to rush against the Philistines, who had called for battle. Rather, he sought for God’s direction. Let’s learn some lessons from this act of David.
Firstly, God delights in giving his children fresh instructions for every battle or endeavours of life (Isa 30:15). Ask of Him and He will show you great things that you don’t know. You can’t pursue today’s battle with yesterday’s instruction.
Secondly, success is a factor of hearing. No great feat was ever achieved without hearing. Don’t be too busy to wait to hear what the Spirit is saying (Rev 3:22).
Thirdly, faith is the revelation of the word personally to you. It is not the word that you casually read that is useful to you but the word that is personally revealed to you. It is the revelation of God’s word to you that guarantees your victory. This revelation teaches you what to do and knowing what to do in any situation makes you a wonder (Rom 10:17).
Fourthly, when you hear the sound by revelation, you begin to see what others don’t see. You then begin to rejoice, pray, give, speak or just walk in the light of that revelation. This revelation gives you power (Hab 2:2).
And lastly, God determines the decisive time to move into battle. This is more important than hearing and knowing what to do. Any delay may attract grave consequences, so it is important to act with dispatch in response to the order.
Friends, never assume to go ahead in any endeavour without hearing God’s instructions for the moment. Your victory is based on hearing and acting with dispatch on what you heard. May you never lose any battle for the rest of your life in Jesus name.
Prayer points
1. Father, please, help me to always seek to hear from you before any endeavour in Jesus name.
2. Father, please, help me never to delay but to act with dispatch on all your orders in Jesus name.
Today’s declarations
1. The revelation of God’s word personally to me triggers faith in me to act in any situation.
2. I seek God’s instruction for the moment as the instruction of yesterday may not meet today’s need.
