WHAT IS SALVATION? 2

WHAT IS SALVATION? 2

Text: Hebrews 9:16-22
Memory verse:
”For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.“
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭26‬:‭28‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

It is a spiritual law that blood must be shed for sin to be forgiven. The first atonement for sin was done by God Himself when He slew animals and shed their blood to clothe Adam and Eve after they had disobeyed Him. The word atonement means “a covering.” The only way their sin could be covered was by the shedding of blood.
From then, men, through various religious rituals, have attempted to achieve atonement through animal sacrifices. Some even offer humans as sin sacrifice. This is what the scripture teaches ”For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.’“ ‭‭(Lev‬ ‭17‬:‭11‬).
The blood covers the sinfulness of man from the righteous eyes of God. Anytime blood is shed, sin and judgment are bypassed, and righteousness is imputed. That was what the Israelites did that saved them from the judgment that brought about the death of all the firstborn of Egypt. God told them to apply the blood of the animal sacrifice on the doorposts and lintels of their houses so that the angel of death could passover. But on the houses of the Egyptians that had no blood, there was great noise because of the death of their firstborn. If any of the Israelites had ignored this warning of applying the blood on their doorposts and lintels or they had used other liquids instead of the blood, they would also have shared in the judgment of the firstborn.
”And according to the law, almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood, there is no remission.“ ‭‭(Heb‬ ‭9‬:‭22‬).
The sacrifices under the law were shadows that pointed to the perfect sacrifice of Jesus, the Lamb of God, who would shed His blood for our forgiveness. ”… “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!“ ‭‭(John‬ ‭1‬:‭29‬). Even on the annual Day of Atonement, the high priest offered blood not only for the people but for himself before entering the holy of holies, lest he be struck dead.
Friends, the blood of animal sacrifices only served to cover sins until the blood of the perfect sacrifice of Jesus is shed, which cleanses from all sins. Therefore, if you have put your trust in the sacrificial work of Christ, you are blood-washed, forgiven, justified, and saved. Hallelujah!
