Text: John 8:37-44
Memory verse:
”I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.“
Ezekiel 36:26 NKJV
One major thing that happens during salvation is a supernatural surgery to remove the old Adamic nature and to replace it with the new nature. The Adamic nature is the nature of sin, and the new nature is the nature of God. ”…I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart.“ (Ezek 36:26 NLT).
Everyone is born with the Adamic nature – stony and stubborn heart. We were all born in sin (Psa 51:5).
With the Adamic nature, sinning is natural, but with the new nature, sinning is strange.
The pig, by its nature, enjoys wallowing in the mud, and it’s at its best when enmeshed in it. Even after cleaning it up, it returns there at every opportunity. Contrarily, the sheep, by its nature, hates to be caught in a mud or to be splashed with it. It rushes out at the slightest opportunity to find a place to clean up the mess from its body. You see, by their natures, the pig can’t behave like a sheep, and neither can sheep act like a pig. The only way this can happen is if something supernatural happens that replaces their hearts. This is what happens at salvation.
The Adamic nature, which is also called the old nature, is always opposed to God’s ways, and it’s not subject to Him. It finds it difficult to obey God and doesn’t just have the ability to do that (Rom 8:7 ).
This is why it’s odd to start preaching to an unsaved person to stop smoking, fornicating, stealing, cheating, to stop sinning without first preaching salvation to him. How can an unsaved person stop sinning when his heart hasn’t been changed? It’s like attempting to run a program on your computer without replacing the crashed hardware! An unsaved person doesn’t have the ability to obey God.
Also, like a sheep, the believer is not comfortable in sin. ”Those who are children of God do not continue to sin, for God’s very nature is in them; and because God is their Father, they cannot continue to sin.“ (1 John 3:9 GNT). He doesn’t continue to sin, which means he doesn’t practice sinning and doesn’t sin habitually or deliberately because the nature of God is in him. Even when he mistakenly falls into sin, he won’t be comfortable in it until he gets out of it.
Friends, has your heart been changed?
