WHEN THE BROOK DRIES

WHEN THE BROOK DRIES

Text: 1 Kings 17:1-9
Memory Verse:
ā€œAnd it happened after a while that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.ā€ ā€ā€(I Kingsā€¬ ā€17ā€¬:ā€7ā€¬).

Most critical equipments and devices have backups that allow them to continue functioning optimally in case one part fails.
For example, some life support systems in hospitals, often come with built-in backups. Ventilators may have battery backup to keep patients breathing in case of a power outage.
Just as a part of a system fails, sometimes also, the brook dries up. According to our text, Elijah had just declared the heavens shut for three years. With the resulting famine, God told His prophet to go to the Brook of Cherith, where He had commanded ravens to feed him.
What is Cherith today? It is the place where God supplies water when no one else has it. It is where God supplies food and meat when these are scarce elsewhere. Cherith stands for a kinsman, a close friend, a long standing partner, a good and secured job, a fat bank account, a thriving business etc.
ā€œAnd it happened after a while that the brook dried up..ā€. ā€ā€(I Kingsā€¬ ā€17ā€¬:ā€7ā€¬). One day, the Brook Cherith dried up, so the ravens didnā€™t show up again. Elijah went there to get a drink and alas, the Brook was dry! Everything that Elijah had relied upon was gone except God!
Friends, one day, your brook may also dry. That thing you have relied on and has supplied your needs may suddenly dry. The problem with the brook is that it makes you so comfortable that you donā€™t see anything better outside it. Also, when you stay by the brook for too long, you may love the brook more than the God who gave it to you. So, God sometimes causes the brook to dry up to achieve His greater purpose for you. God moved Elijah from the brook to the widow of Zarephath, who desperately needed an urgent intervention to remain alive!
Friends, does it seem like your brook has dried up? Elijah lost everything at the Brook Cherith, except God. He didnā€™t complain or murmur. Donā€™t lose God in the midst of the dryness. Wait for His next instruction, for He has provided a backup for you. He wants to move you to your next level, to get back your devotion or to just separate you from a Lot in your journey or a Jonah in your boat. He, probably has seen what you didnā€™t see or heard what you didnā€™t hear. May you find God when your brook dries up in Jesus name.

Prayer points
1. Father, please, help me to know when You are behind the sudden dryness of my brook in Jesus name.
2. Father, please, help me not to lose You even if my brook suddenly dries up in Jesus name.

Todayā€™s declarations
1. I cannot be frustrated or be stranded, for God has a backup for me in the event of failure or disappointment.
2. I know that any God-orchestrated drying of the brook is for my good.
