Text: Luke 12:13-21

”“But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’” Luke 12:20
Dwight L. Moody said, “Someday you will read in the papers that D.L. Moody of Northfield is dead. Don’t you believe a word of it. At that moment I shall be more alive than I am now. I shall have gone higher, that is all — out of this old clay tenement into a house that is immortal, a body that sin cannot touch, that sin cannot taint, a body fashioned into His glorious body. I was born in the flesh in 1837; I was born of the Spirit in 1856. That which is born of the flesh may die; that which is born of the Spirit will live forever.” Moody prepared for this final date on earth before it ever came. What a wise man! So, God describes the third category of fools as one who would go through life unprepared for what we all know will eventually happen, that is, death; who lives as if he will live forever on earth. “If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.” (I Cor 15:19).
We are created to live forever but not on earth. Our life on earth is only a dress rehearsal for the real production, which is life in eternity. Death is only an exit gate, which we must all pass through from the earth into eternity, except those who will still be living at the time of rapture. Life on eternity offers different options but eternity only leaves us with one of two possibilities – eternity with God or eternity in hell fire. It’s the life you choose to live on earth that will determine your choice in eternity. Thus, a fool prepares for examinations, travels, wedding, holidays, parties, post retirement and every other thing except eternity. Such was the case of the young rich fool in our text today.
Friends, be wise today, let your most important business be to prepare for your final day on earth. Labour to be rich in eternity with God.

1. Father, keep me always prepared for eternity with You in Jesus name.
2. Father, help me to labour to be rich in eternity in Jesus name.
