Text: 2 Peter 3:1-9
Memory verse:
“Know that the Lord, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.” Psalms 100:3
I tell you, when God calls someone a fool, such is a fool indeed. Unlike man, when God calls someone a fool, it’s based on the whole truth He knows about the person. There is no better assessment than that which the Creator gives.
Now, let’s consider the persons God called the name fools in the scriptures. First is one who says there is no God. This person believes he or she is not accountable to any Being and no one takes notice to reward or to punish. This is a depraved and reckless life. “The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and have done abominable iniquity; There is none who does good.” (Psa 14:1).
The second is one who mocks at sin, as the generation of Noah mocked at his preaching of righteousness. To mock at sin is to make light of it; to jest about it; to ridicule and scoff at its seriousness; to scorn and jeer those who teach and speak against it. One who mocks at sin thinks or boasts of sinning with impunity. A Bi-sexual Brazilian composer, singer and poet, Cazuza, while smoking his cigarette during a show in Canecio (Rio de Janeiro ), puffed out some smoke into the air and said:’God, that’s for you.’! Canecio later died in a horrible manner of lung cancer at the age of 32! What a fool! Today, people mock at chastity, calling it ‘old school’. They call lewdnesses an entertainment or fashion. Pastors invite comedians who mock at sins from the altar and the congregation laughs at it, calling it fun. Lies are called diplomacy and bribery called public relations! Fornication and unholy cohabiting are now celebrated as dating! Preachers who warn against these are now called legalistic. “Fools mock at sin, But among the upright there is favor.” (Prov 14:9).
Friend, be a wise person, who recognizes that the Almighty God made you and you didn’t make yourself and therefore serve Him. Be a wise person who hates sins, grieves at it and flees from it.
Prayer points
1. Father, I worship You today as I declare that You made me and that I didn’t make myself and help me to serve You for the rest of my life in Jesus name.
2. Father, deliver me from the temptation of mocking at sin and never to rationalize sin under any disguise in Jesus name.
Today’s declarations
1. I am not a fool for I know that the Almighty God made me and I am accountable to Him.
2. I am not a fool for I don’t mock at sin but I hate it, grieve it and flee from it.
