Text: Numbers 13:31-33, 14: 1–5
Memory verse:
”nor complain, as some of them also complained, and were destroyed by the destroyer.“
I Corinthians 10:10 NKJV
The most terrible act of ingratitude is to murmur or complain against God when things are not as one planned. People murmur because they don’t see what God is doing at that moment. They lose their patience and judge God. They lament and complain that nothing is working for them. How can someone who is still in his right sense say that nothing is working for him? Do you not know that it’s the workings in your brain system that makes you to be able to talk sensibly? No one will remain normal for a minute if the brain system refuses to work for that period! Such a person will become mad at that moment. Likewise, how can someone who moves around and lifts up his hands as he wills then say that nothing is working? Ask the neurologists, they will tell you the cooperation that takes place between the nerves of the legs, the brain, and other parts of the body, which leads to coordinated movement and handling. It is, therefore, foolishness to conclude that nothing is working for you! Complainers have distorted perceptions about life. Just for one challenge, they rubbished all the past goodness of God. They were like saying, “Nothing is working for us since we left Egypt!”
According to our text today, the children of Israel complained until they became destroyed. The scripture warned, ”nor complain, as some of them also complained, and were destroyed by the destroyer.“ (I Cor 10:10).
You see, it was not only the ten leaders that got destroyed but all those who were influenced by their ingratitude. ”So all the congregation lifted up their voices and cried, and the people wept that night. And all the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron…” (Num 14:1-2). The scriptures say that God was not well pleased with them (1 Cor 10:5). Ingratitude hurts Him. Your life is most exposed to danger when God is displeased with you. If you want to please God, break away friendship with anyone who is a complainer. Ingratitude is contagious.
Thanklessness will dry up the flow of the anointing, but thankfulness will provoke fresh oil. David experienced fresh anointing because he was always thankful (Psa 92:1-2, 12).
Friends, choose thankfulness instead of complaining. Always be patient while you remember that God won’t forget you and that He is working all things together for your good.
