Text: John 2:1-10
Memory verse:
“For the Lord God is a sun and shield; The Lord will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold From those who walk uprightly.” Psalms 84:11
Shame is a painful feeling of humiliation, embarrassment, disgrace, dishonour and disrespect. It can be the result of a bad decision, wrong choice or uncontrolled circumstances. It can also be caused by a demonic attack.
Our text today shows how shame would have marred the wedding, if not for a divine intervention. In 2 Kings 4:1, an impending shame was also averted. Contrarily, in 2 Chronicles 32:21, Sennacherib, the king of Assyria returned home in shame.
Sin is the origin of all forms of shame. When Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, they lost their covering glory, became naked and ashamed. God killed an animal and covered their nakedness with its skin. It was symbolic of the great sacrifice of Jesus. The scriptures say that “All have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God” (Rom 3:23). When anyone accepts the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, God forgives and covers such with His glory. Accepting Jesus Christ is embracing the grace of God. Grace comes only through Jesus.
“For the Lord God is a sun and shield; The Lord will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold From those who walk uprightly.” (Psalms 84:11)
Glory comes through grace but grace comes through Jesus. Grace carries glory, so it is called “the glory of His grace” (Eph 1:6a).
When a man finds grace, glory moves in with it, for God gives “grace and glory”. It is the coming of grace that ends our shame. Grace supplies every good thing, in the absence of which disgrace is inevitable. Shame is incompatible with a life crowned with grace but life without grace is a life of guaranteed disgrace. Grace terminates the season of suffering and ushers in the season of glory (1 Pet 2:10). By the power of grace, I decree the end of shame and suffering in your life in Jesus name.
