WORSHIPING IN TONGUES

WORSHIPING IN TONGUES

Text: 1 Corinthians 14:15-18
Memory verse:
“For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. Then Peter answered,” ‭‭(Acts‬ ‭10‬:‭46‬).

One of the ways to enrich your private devotion is to employ the use of tongues. The scriptures exhort us to come before God’s presence with singing ‭‭(Psa‬ ‭100‬:‭2‬). As great as singing before God is, it will be limited if you sing only in your understanding. You add value to your private praise and worship when you sing in the spirit. “… I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding.” ‭‭(I Cor‬ ‭14‬:‭15‬). Many believers pray in the spirit but rarely sing in the spirit. In fact, singing in tongues, that is singing in the spirit, is so important that Paul put it first before singing with understanding. The value it can place on your praise and worship is captured by the words of Paul . “For you indeed give thanks well, but the other is not edified.” ‭‭ (‭‭I Cor‬ ‭14‬:‭7‬). If you read from verse 14, you will see that what Paul was saying is that, speaking in tongues in thanksgiving is more valuable in your personal devotion than in a public worship. The reason is simply that, others, especially those who are not in the same spiritual state, may not be blessed by it because they have no understanding of the language. Yet, it can be done when the gathering is all believers and everyone is involved in the thanksgiving. “For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God…” ‭‭(Acts‬ ‭10‬:‭46‬). More importantly, note that you ‘indeed give thanks well’ when you give thanks in tongues.
Friends, if you have received the Holy Spirit, start today in your private devotion by singing, magnifying and thanking God in the spirit and in your understanding.
