Text: Matthew 14:23–29
Memory text:
“by so much more, Jesus has become a surety of a better covenant.”
â€â€Hebrews‬ â€7‬:â€22‬ â€NKJV‬‬
Gambling and faith are completely opposite in nature. Gambling is risking on chance, like saying, “maybe it will work, maybe not.” Faith is resting on the certainty of God’s Word like, “God has said it, therefore it is sure.” “For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen.” (2 Cor 1:20). Gambling thrives on uncertainty while faith thrives on revelation.
Gambling has no assurance of outcome. It’s a guesswork. Faith is anchored in God’s Word, which is an unshakable evidence. Faith is the title or an indisputable evidence of the things hoped for. “Now faith is the assurance (title deed, confirmation) of things hoped for (divinely guaranteed), and the evidence of things not seen [the conviction of their reality—faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses].” (Heb 11:1 AMP).
Gambling depends on luck; faith depends on the Lord. Gambling hopes in chance, while faith rests on the unchanging character of God: on God’s integrity. Chance is uncertain, but God’s Word is unchanging. God is not a man, so He does not lie (Num 23:19). Faith doesn’t roll dice; it holds promises.
According to our text, Peter didn’t step on the water until Jesus said, “Come.” His Word revealed God’s will, which became the foundation of Peter’s faith. His faith made him walk on the water. He stepped out of the boat into the water with certainty and evidence, aligning himself to His will and holding on to the integrity of Jesus who called him. “He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.” â€â€(I Thes‬ â€5‬:â€24‬).
Faith is not blind risk, rather it stands on the revealed word of God. If you call it a risk at all, it’s a guaranteed, fully insured risk. Jesus is the surety of the risk (Heb 7:22).
Friends, faith stands on God’s Word. Risk relies on uncertainty. Blind risk jumps without reason; faith steps out because it has already seen the outcome in God’s promise. Faith sees the unseen. Risk follows impulse. Faith does not leap into darkness; it walks in God’s light. Faith follows divine direction. Peter didn’t just walk on water at random; he stepped out only after Jesus said, “Come”. Risk begins with uncertainty; faith begins with revelation. Are you walking in faith, that is, taking a guaranteed risk or are you taking a blind risk?
Prayer points
1. Father, let my faith be firmly rooted in Your Word and not in chance, guesswork or emotions, in Jesus’ name.
2. Father, let me always move by divine instruction, never by reckless impulse or by blind risk; let my steps of faith by aligned with Your will, in Jesus’ name.
Today’s declarations
1. I won’t gamble with life’s decisions. I will not take blind risk. Rather, I will stand only on God’s Word that cannot fail.
2. I am delivered from presumption and deception; I will not mistake risk for faith. I won’t go until I hear Him say, “come”.
