Topic:             Strategies for Effective Soul winning and Evangelism                       

Text:               Matthew 5: 13-14

Message: Worship him this morning. Father, we thank you. Thank you Jesus! Worship him this morning. Thank you mighty God. Pre-message prayer and intro. By the design of God; you are a divine package sent to the world. So, you are not even in this world at all by your own choice. So, because you are representing God’s kingdom, you are sent with an assignment. Therefore, it is really important that you understand your purpose. If you don’t know the purpose of a thing; abuse is inevitable. You can be so innocent and still be abusive of the thing. So, the fact that you are innocent does not preclude your tendency to be abusive when you don’t know the purpose of a thing. We are considering the topic: How we use to take the knowledge of God in the past and now are becoming different. If you can plug into this responsibility; it then becomes impossible for the devil to do anything about you. There are so many stories of people who excel in their various endeavors just because they subscribed to the purpose of their life. There are so many people that are shifting from the real thing. It is a disaster on the part of the place given to us when we fail in the place of Evangelism. II Corinthians 5: 17-19. How many of you here are born again? I want to believe that your response will be yes. You are born again. Ministry of reconciliation. Let us check the NLT translation. May I announce to you brethren that your primary assignment on earth is to evangelize Jesus.  Let me ask you – are you a brother of Jesus? Do you believe that Jesus is your elder brother? Do you believe Jesus is the first born? John 3: 16… and those who believe in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life… The ministry of reconciliation,. I have come to discover that, many times when they talk of evangelism in the church that they are helping the church. But, paradoxically, the reverse is the case. In Revelations 22: 1. Behold, I come quickly… Check through the scripture; the Bible did not say: …To give to every church. You are not helping the church by evangelizing Christ. You are helping yourself. Tell yourself: It is my responsibility. Some people will say: How do I evangelize? That is why the title is: ‘Strategies for Effective Soul winning and Evangelism’. The first thing we need to know is that the responsibility belongs to us. Jesus has given us the ministry of reconciliation. I got to a point that the Holy Spirit told me that for some people it is their title that is evangelizing. In my journey of Education; I have realized that Teachers already have all the opportunity to evangelize. We heard the testimony of our father in the Lord that it was his Geography teacher that led him to Christ. It is so unfortunate that there are Christians who will be found in the place of gossip instead of the place of evangelism. I remember there was a time I came to Ilorin from Omu-Aran. I wanted to preach in the vehicle but I couldn’t. By the time I got to Ilorin; I was so guilty-struck. We Christians nowadays are sleeping. God will ask you in the last days about the number of souls you brought to Christ. What will be your response? Don’t allow a week to go without winning a soul. So, it is your personal responsibility. If you don’t do it; it may not look as if something is wrong at the moment. But when the master comes; it may become something of regret and agony. We need to accept this responsibility and then fulfill it. Ezekiel 3: 10. The responsibility is on us now to go out to fish for Christ. Accept the responsibility and God will take over. Yes, sometimes, you may meet some challenging situations, but God Himself is with you to help you solve them. Some of us here know it – the Holy Spirit is torturing us to preach to that person but you refused. You can’t be evangelizing and not grow spiritually. You can’t be struggling to pray if you are the one who evangelize. Mark 16: 15; Matthew 28: 19. Believer are saved, not only for themselves, but for others. No Christian can be confirmed to be dedicated if he is not interested in soul winning. I Corinthians 9: 16. That is the primary characteristics of a truly dedicated Christian. Soul winning or evangelism is a title that your personal title cannot cancel.

Why should there be soul winning?

  1. Salvation is the priority of God – Soul winning is the heartbeat of God. Ezekiel 3: 11; II Peter 3: 9. John 3: 16
  2. It is one major way of proving your love for God. You cannot prove that you love your spouse by doing what your spouse does not want. If soul winning is not eating your heart; you don’t love God. The proof of love is in action. Even in today’s Grace Devotional; our father in the Lord made us know that the proof of love is in the sacrifice. John 21: 15-16. Mere religious performance is a Christian life without the sacrifices of soul winning. Matthew 15: 8.

How many of us are ready to make the father happy by winning souls for the Lord. Isaiah 39: 13.

  1. Soul winning is so important that God does not joke with it. Jonah 1: 2-3. He says: Go to the world and preach. It is good to yield to instruction.
  2. The salvation of multitude brings honor to God. Proverbs 14: 28.

Strategies for Effective Soul winning and Evangelism

  1. Knowledge of the commission
  2. Personal evangelism.
  • Get a partner that you will go out together every week. Proverbs 27: 17. A day a week is not bad. Can you beat your chest and bold say that you have brought someone to Christ in the last five years?
  1. House fellowship is a strong tool for evangelism. Sometimes, we can even organize mini-crusade.
  2. There is a place for the church. Invite people to the church. The church is there opening her arms to help but you are saying: I don’t want to be helped. Whatever you do will speak for you on the last day. Even if you are not bold enough to invite somebody by your words, get tracts or cards and give people to invite people to the Church of God – The church may well be the place where they will be saved. Matthew 38 says we must disciple them. Bring people to church for Christ so that they can be discipled for Christ.

There are numerous benefits in soul winning. Galatians 6: 7. Luke 15: 7-10. This is what happen. When God helped you to bring a man to Christ; there will be Joy in heaven which automatically means your life will be full of joys. Daniel 12: 3. A story of a boy who evangelizes his way to success. Soul winners are ‘unkillable’ – because they are preserved by God. Soul winners does not make plenty request but usually have plenty testimonies.

You might think you still have the time – but, lo and behold, there is no time again! We always pray for long life but what if rapture happens tomorrow; what will you tell your father who created you? We will not be here forever. This is the time! Now is the time! The urgency is placed on you! Start today! You may have four PhDs and many properties all over the world, but this will become worthless on the day of death or the day of rapture.
